Indian voluntary organization SANTHWANAM KUWAIT conducted it’s 16th Annual General Meeting on Friday, 20th January 2017 at United Indian School Auditorium, Jleeb Al Shuyoukh (Abassiya). Indian Embassy Second Secretary (PIC) Mr. A.K. Srivastava was the Chief Guest to inaugurate the event. Members and well wishers of the association along with many personalities from different walks of life attended the event and shared their experience and vision on compassion to fellowmen.
President, Mr. P. Santhosh Kumar presided over the event and the General Secretary, Mr. V.D. Poulose addressed the audience with detailed reports on activities carried out for the year 2016. Financial statement was tabled by Joint Treasurer K.S. Anilkumar in the absence of Treasurer, Mr. Santhoshkumar Swaminathan. Chief Guest Mr. Srivastava released Annual Souvenir for the year called “SMARANIKA 2016”.
SANTHWANAM started its humanitarian services in 2001. Over the years, the organization has risen as a source of valuable support to large number of helpless individuals afflicted by disease, poverty and calamities in diverse ways. More than 9000 poor patients and families benefitted from its various social welfare programs introduced all over India. This includes special health care welfare programs to kidney & cancer patients, support to Pain & Palliative Care Centres, Endosulfan Victims, Boiled drinking water facility at Medical college, Support for Mobile Mammogram Unit, Medical Aid to Hemophilia patients, Physiotheraphy Units in Tribal areas, donating dialysis machines etc. Every month organization reach its medical aid to an average of 80 poor patients. In 2016 itself more than 1200 such deserving persons benefitted for treatment.
Every year SANTHWANAM initiate Special Social Welfare Programs in addition to its regular philanthropic activities. For the last 4 years, the organization have been facilitating free/subsidized accommodation at “TRIDA VISHRAM SANKETH” for patients and their bystanders coming from faraway places for treatment to Regional Cancer Centre & Medical College Hospital at Trivandrum.
Primary phase of its recently announced special welfare projects are in progress which includes constructing a building for Blood Component Separation Unit at Govt. General Hospital at Kozhikkode, Education support for Tribal Children in Kalpetta, financial aid for Pain & Palliative Units in various districts of Kerala etc.
Its another project to provide medical aid for critically ill children in various districts of Kerala is continuing in association with well known organization, SOLACE. Cancer Patients are being supported by the organization with a Nutritional supplement program at Kollam Cancer Care Centre since last 3 years.
SANTHWANAM is voluntarily supported by more than 2700 likeminded Indians as members in Kuwait. Association supports many social organizations including Pain & Palliative Care Units in India (particularly in Kerala) with regular financial assistance. It actively involved in repatriation issues of Indians in Kuwait by providing Air Ticket and financial assistance to poor patients leaving Kuwait for further treatment.
Annual meeting unanimously elected Mr.M.N. Ravindran as President, Mr. Santhosh Joseph as General Secretary, Mr. Abdul Sathar as Treasurer. Advisory board members, Executive Committee Members, Auditor and working committee members were also elected in the meeting to carry out activities for the year 2017.
The new governing team requested all expat Indians in Kuwait to become part of the philanthropic initiative and help the less privileged ones in the society.
