Dancing can be one of the most enjoyable form of exercise. But, what most people don't know is that dance has many health benefits. Dancing is a mind and body workout. Dance provides feel good factor to our body and soul. It can help us lose weight, strengthen and tone our body, facilitates stamina and flexibility, offers balance and posture, and also boosts confidence. Whether it is cultural dance, bollywood, or rhumba, dancing could be a great exercise for all. Different forms of dance can burn large amount of calories. Who would have thought you could have fun and lose weight at the same time! The best part is you're not even thinking about losing the weight while dancing.

Researchers Merom D., Ding D. and Stamatakis E. in American journal of Preventive medicine revealed that moderate-intensity dancing was associated with a reduced risk for cardiovascular disease mortality to a greater extent than walking. This study had involved 48,000 citizens of the United Kingdom who answered questions about their dancing and walking habits over the past month. All were aged 40 years and older with no history of heart disease and agreed to be linked to the National Death Registry. An average follow-up after 10 years, researchers found that moderate-intensity dancing was linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular death. This benefit was better than that observed with walking, and found to be stronger in women than men. The association between dance and cardiovascular disease mortality may be explained by high-intensity bouts during dancing, or psychosocial benefits.

Social dancing has other effective influence on our mood and we know that stress is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. So being on dance floor, smiling, listening to music with a lots of ‘zatkas’ and ‘matkas’ , we sweat and burn out calories , along with this we forget about stress which in turn benefits a lot.
