The Suzuki Ignis was first unveiled in 2015 at the Tokyo Motor Show, before it made an appearance at the Auto Expo 2016 in Delhi and later made its European debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. While Maruti Suzuki was earlier expected to launch the Ignis sub-compact crossover in India during the festive season 2016, the Vitara Brezza and Baleno's production constraints lead the company to postpone the launch. Now word has it that the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will arrive in India between January - March 2017.

Suzuki Ignis

The Suzuki Ignis is 3,700mm long, 1,660mm wide, 1,595mm tall, and gets a wheelbase of 2,438mm and ground clearance of 180mm. Based on the same platform as the Baleno, the Ignis comes sporting a smartly-designed grille, projector head-lamps, LED daytime running lamps, flared wheel arches. Its distinctive rear comprises a large windshield, well-sculpted hatch door, and plastic cladding on the bumper.

The Maruti Ignis' cabin will benefit from a dual-tone dashboard with body-colour highlights, heated front seats, automatic climate control, SmartPlay infotainment system, etc.. Its list of provisions for safety is likely to include dual front, side and curtain airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP, and lane departure warning.

Suzuki Ignis Rear

In India, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will borrow the Baleno's engine options, namely, the 73.9bhp 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine and the 84bhp 1.2-litre K-Series petrol motor. The carline will also reportedly receive the company's SHVS mild hybrid technology. For transmission, the car will be offered with a five-speed manual and an AMT.

While already on sale in Japan, the Suzuki Ignis is also likely to be launched in Europe by 2017. However, it must be noted the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be a tad different from the international-spec models in terms of styling and will also miss a handful of features from the global-spec Suzuki Ignis.
