World Health Day 2017: This is how you can combat depression!

Depression is a brain disorder characterised by pervasive feeling or a state of mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life.

World Health Day is observed each year on April 7 and this year WHO is focusing on depression, the leading cause of ill health and disability worldwide, with the theme 'Depression: Let's talk'.

Depression is certainly treatable, but needs to be addressed immediately.

Though, it cannot be cured with medication but there are simple ways which can be done to overcome depression.

Here are some ways to combat depression:

Regular exercise

Exercise regularly as it can help people cope with depression, stress and anxiety. Exercise also helps to improve blood circulation in the body, release stress and pressure of day-to- day life.

Healthy diet

Eat a healthy balanced diet including plenty of green vegetables like spinach and fruits helps to ease depression. But, in some cases, people who suffer from depression tend to eat more. Controlling of eating habits can help them relieve pressure.

Get enough sleep

Lack of sleep can cause you irritability and stress, while healthy sleep can enhance well-being. It is proved that sleep deprivation has a significant effect on mood. So, one should get adequate amount of sleep to avoid stress and mood swings which leads to depression.

Stay connected

One should force oneself to go out and do some recreational activities as doing so it will help to overcome the feeling of depression. Connect with your friends and hang out with them, as it will have huge positive effect on your mood.

Distraction

Distract yourself from the thoughts of all the useless things and over thinking. Your thought is the enemy and makes way for you to set in depression. Make yourself busy as it is an effective way to overcome depression.
