‘287 Kuwaitis received false certificates from fake schools’

Posted on : Thursday 13th of July 2017

KUWAIT CITY : It seems some people are now trying to take credit for the disclosure of the issue of fake certificates, which Al-Shahed daily has reopened. They are ignoring the role played by former MP Kamel Al-Awadi who was the first to address this issue, reports Al- Shahed daily.

Al-Awadi had a dispute with former minister of Education and Higher Education Bader Al-Essa during one of the parliamentary sessions last year. He said the New York Times revealed that 287 Kuwaitis had received false certificates from fake universities and schools.

During the heated debate between Al- Awadi and Al-Essa, the latter eventually disclosed that 269 of those who obtained these false certificates had already been identified and referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The former minister also revealed that 99 percent of those who had obtained forged certificates were working in the private sector, and that majority of them are expatriates but not those working at Kuwait University.

Al-Awadi then responded by saying, “If they are not citizens, who referred them to the Public Prosecution?”. He stressed that many of the children of Kuwait have suffered for seven years to obtain a doctorate degree but do not find jobs because the forgers are enjoying good leadership positions. He demanded holding those responsible for false certificates accountable, insisting that the embassies of Kuwait in all countries of the world should check them and know the names of those who hold the fake certificates.
