Posted on : Tuesday 22nd of August 2017

KUWAIT CITY : Kuwaiti Ambassador to India Fahd Al-Awadi affirmed deeprooted bilateral diplomatic relations and friendly ties between Kuwait and India, reports Al-Qabas daily. Al-Awadi disclosed the Indian prime minister Modi will begin an official visit to Kuwait soon.

He noted the Kuwaiti-Indian Joint Committee is scheduled to meet before the end of 2017 to discuss the importance of availing of India’s advanced communication and IT programming. Concerning the main problem he faces in India, Al-Awadi pointed to the issue of Indian laborers in Kuwait, especially domestic workers who became the main focus of the Indian media, while many cases are blown out of proportion.

He added the Indian Parliament discusses labor related issues and mounts pressure on the government to improve on the conditions of Indian laborers. He added issues are usually exagger- Al-Awadi ated by the media due to the large population of Indian laborers in Kuwait despite immense efforts exerted by the Indian and Kuwaiti governments to deal with injustices among laborers. As regards the level of cooperation between Kuwait and India on tourism, Al-Awadi noted a growing number of Kuwaiti tourists to India.

However, he stressed there’s more room for improvement seeing the number of Kuwaitis that head towards Europe. Al-Awadi commended India’s support for Arab issues, especially the Palestinian issue — despite the existing mutual understanding between India and Israel. He noted India only cooperates with Israel to attain technological advancement, especially in the field of nuclear energy. On Syrian issue, Al-Awadi disclosed serving once as the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Damascus. He hopes Syria will enjoy peace and stability soon.

He explained the Kuwaiti stance toward Syria is represented in the principle of HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to stand by the people and support them without interfering in the internal affairs of other countries while serving as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He reiterated Kuwait’s support of the reconstruction of Syria through financial aid.
