Thrissur: Amid the recent row over denying legendary playback singer K J Yesudas entry to temples, the veteran artist said he would be the last in the queue of devotees wishing to enter the the famed Sri Krishna Temple at Guruvayur. He made this remark after accepting the first Shankara Padmam award instituted by Thrissur Thekke Madom, a prominent monastery, on Monday.

“I don't need any special consideration for Guruvayur entry. The authorities have to take a decision on the issue. I should not be allowed entry when others are excluded. I would prefer to enter the temple when everyone who sincerely wish to visit the temple are allowed. I will be the last one among them to enter the temple," he said.

"I will also keep my vow of not entering other Krishna temples without first praying at the Guruvayur temple. Once, when I visited the Udupi Sree Krishna temple on the insistence of a friend, as if reading my mind, the Lord appeared in the attire of Sri Rama,” Yesudas said.

“If everybody learns Vedas, there will be peace across the world," he said, adding that Vedas should not be confined to the framework of a religion.

The award was presented to Yesudas by Thekke Madam Mooppil Swamiyar Vasudevananda Brahmanandabhuti.

Yesudas' wife Prabha was too present at the function, which was inaugurated by author and screenplay writer Madampu Kunjukuttan.

The Shankarajayanti celebrations were inaugurated by Yesudas.
