‘Travel for Hajj by plane only as 180 on 1 caravan’

Posted on : Wednesday 27th of June 2018

KUWAIT CITY : The Supreme Committee for Hajj Affairs from Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has fixed the coming Wednesday to receive price offers of Hajj packages for Bedoun residents, reports Al-Qabas daily. The committee revealed that the envelopes will be opened next Thursday, indicating that the ministry has set KD 1,300 as the maximum cost of Hajj package for Bedoun residents for the year 1439 AH. It declared that the registration process for caravans will be available online starting from July 1.

Meanwhile, Undersecretary of Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Fareed Al-Emadi affirmed that any envelope with prices exceeding KD 1,300 will be ignored. Stressing the keenness of the ministry to subsidize the costs for Bedoun residents who desire to perform Hajj ritual, he indicated that the subsidy value will be determined later with the coordination of Kuwait Finance House and Secretariat General of Awqaf and based on directives of Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Dr. Fahad Al-Afasi.

Meanwhile, Al-Rai daily reported that the Supervisor of Hajj Affairs at Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Sattam Al-Mezian has issued a circular to the owners of Hajj caravans, stating that the maximum number of pilgrims in each caravan should not exceed 180. This number also includes the religious guide and medical crew.

The circular affirmed that travel for Hajj should only be via plane, adding that caravans must conduct Hajj trips even if the number of applicants is less than the maximum number (180). Meanwhile, sources from the judicial sector expressed resentment about a statement included in the report issued by the Supreme Council for Planning and Development, considering it as an interference in the affairs of the judiciary authority, reports Al-Rai daily.

The sources condemned the memo issued by the Public Strategies and Administrative Development Committee in which the judiciary authority was criticized, which is a clear violation of article 50 of the Kuwaiti Constitution concerning separation among different authorities. They pointed out that the Supreme Council for Planning and Development is affiliated to the executive authority.

The sources stressed that the judicial authority, if the information is confirmed, will take relevant legal actions, insisting that the judicial affairs are limited to judiciary authority which corrects its own shortcomings without any external interference. They affirmed that any attempt to shake the trust in the judiciary authority will be rejected and confronted legally.

It is worth mentioning that one of the memos issued by the Committee of Public Strategies and Administrative Development affiliated to the Supreme Council for Planning and Development when discussing international indicators about withdrawal of Kuwait in some fields such as confronting corruption, administrative backwardness and the judicial independence, indicated that the lack of judiciary authority is one among the reasons behind Kuwait’s withdrawal.
