Bid to generate jobs for Kuwaitis – ‘Establish public companies, privatize their administration’

Posted on : Tuesday 3rd of July 2018

KUWAIT CITY : MP Khalil Al-Saleh has suggested establishing public companies and privatizing their administration as a way of generating job opportunities for Kuwaitis in the private sector, reports Al-Rai daily.

Al-Saleh also confirmed that the Job Crisis and Employee Replacement Committee in the Parliament has completed its report on the unemployment issue based on data provided by the relevant bodies.

In its report, the committee recommended amendment of the Private Labor Law; especially the items on employment and indemnity to give more protection for employees. Al-Saleh told the daily that the committee will meet again to discuss details of the report and then finalize it.

He suggested developing the private sector in the next five years as part of efforts to address the unemployment problem. He said at least 40 percent of Kuwaiti graduates should be employed in the private sector, indicating such jobs should be permanent. He pointed out this is possible through the establishment of public shareholding companies whose administration should be privatized to generate jobs for citizens, citing postal service and electricity as examples.

The committee’s report also stressed the need to solve the problem of merging the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) and the Government and Manpower Restructuring Program (MGRP) in order to encourage citizens to work in the private sector.
