Thiruvananthapuram: Hanan Hamid, the 19-year-old college student from Kochi, became a social media star overnight after her video of selling fish in her college uniform went viral. While many people including acclaimed filmmaker Arun Gopy came up with offers of a better livelihood for Hanan, she was the target of a section of netizens who trolled her alleging that she was fooling the society by sensational acts for promoting an upcoming Malayalam movie. Onmanorama had revealed Hanan's true life condition as she struggles to support her family and her own higher education.

Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has now come up in support of Hanan, calling her the real warrior. The chief minister said that Hanan's endeavour to support her family, along with her studies, makes him proud. Extending support to Hanan, the chief minister ordered a quick probe into the cyber defamation row and sought speedy action against those behind it. “I have asked Ernakulam district collector to offer ample protection to Hanan. I request the whole Kerala to stand with Hanan and support her to face adverse life situations bravely,” Pinarayi Vijayan told media.

Chief minister has also posted a Facebook status in support of Hanan. He said in his status that social media campaigns are swords with are sharp on both edges. “Cyber interference in social issues should be carried out with more vigil. I don't recommend the attitude of circulating everything that comes on your wall. People propagate campaigns without checking their veracity. This is a highly destructive social approach,” he said.

Chief minister also offered his wholehearted support to the Kochi girl in her life endeavours.

'No complaints'

Kerala's netizens are now striving to find the ones who kick-started the defamation campaign against Hanan. Noorudeen Sheikh, a video-blogger hailing from Wayanad posted a live video on Facebook, apologizing for his earlier viral live video calling Hanan a fraudster.

However, Kochi cyber cell clarified that they have not yet received any formal complaints in the issue. “We are all aware of the cyber attack being faced by Hanan but we haven't received any formal complaint so far. Now that the chief minister has ordered a quick police action in the issue, we are awaiting an instruction to take adequate action,” Kochi cyber cell SI Dara told Onmanorama.
