‘Slaughterhouses rent increased by more than 60 times’

Posted on : Friday 3rd of August 2018

KUWAIT CITY : Head of slaughterhouse and livestock market in Dhaher area Saad Albous revealed that the rents of slaughterhouses have increased astronomically by more than 60 times, reports Al-Anba daily. He explained that the government is currently getting KD 2.350 million annually as rents for the slaughterhouses, but they were not more than KD 40,000 two years ago

. This has led to the suffering of traders and the increase in livestock prices; and the burden has also been passed to the consumers. Albous affirmed that there will be plenty of sheep in the market before and during Eid Al-Adha, which means their prices will be lower this year, indicating that the reason for this is that many people will travel outside the country, and there will be higher supply than demand.

He stressed the keenness of sheep owners and traders to take advantage of this very vital season, which is an opportunity that is not repeated except once a year when they import livestock to meet the high demand before and during Eid Al-Adha. Albous said the sheep market is subject to supply and demand rate, the rise and fall of which affects it, adding that the slaughterhouses have made necessary preparations at the highest level to receive sacrifices due to which they are not expecting any congestion.

He indicated that the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition will provide veterinaries with high-quality services in various slaughterhouses, adding that another slaughter hall will be opened in Umm Al- Haiman during the first two days of Eid Al- Adha to reduce pressure and provide the best services for all who wish to slaughter their sacrifices during Eid Al-Adha.
