On his one-day tour to Maharashtra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched four big infrastructure projects. But, the PM's show did not impress ally Shiv Sena. Miffed over not inviting party president Uddhav Thackeray the party boycotted all the functions.
The PM laid the foundation stone of Mumbai Metro's Line-5 on the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan corridor and Dahisar-Mira-Bhayander Metro-9 at Kalyan in Thane district. Modi also launched a mass housing scheme worth Rs 18,000 crore, which will provide 89,771 affordable houses. The project will be carried out under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO). While launching the project Modi attacked the Congress for delaying projects.
"Metro project was launched in Mumbai in 2006 but it got stuck and nothing happened till 2014. Just 11 km completed in eight years," he said.
"Previous government in its last four years built just 25.5 lakh houses. In last four years our government built 1.25 crore houses. It would have taken three generations for them to build these houses. We are building 'adarsh (ideal) houses' for people, but our adarsh is not like the Adarsh Society which you heard in the earlier government," he quipped further.
But the programme was more in focus for the tug of war between Shiv Sena and the BJP. Shiv Sena ministers and legislators did not attend any of the functions in Kalyan and Pune. Uddhav Thackeray was not invited for the programme alleging that the BJP is solely taking credit for the development works.
On Sunday (December 16) the Shiv Sena-ruled Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had gone on to lay the foundation stone of the Coastal Road in Mumbai.
BJP leader and Education Minister Vinod Tawde downplayed the Shiv Sena boycot on PM's function.

"This is a people's programme. Invitations have been sent to everyone. No one should boycott people's programme," Tawde told India Today TV.
