Valentine fever grips youth

Posted on : Saturday 13th of February 2016

Patna: With Rose Day kicking in the Valentine's Week from Sunday, shops in the city are stocked with gifts and greetings cards to help make the run up to February 14 special for cupid-stuck people. Even city restaurants and hotels are ready with attractive deals and decked up premises to draw maximum footfall on Sunday.

Personalized gifts such as coffee mugs with photographs, T-shirts or heart-shaped cushions with messages or pics, selected romantic songs or an audiovisual of the time spent together are some of the new options that couples are investing in when it comes to selecting a Valentine gift. "The sales for Valentine's Day commenced from February first week. While traditional favourites like chocolates, soft toys and decorative items are still popular among Patnaites, youngsters also prefer personalized options such as key chains or lockets with names or photo albums with selected pics etc," Santosh Kumar, a salesman at a gift shop on Boring Road said.

Hotels, too, are geared up with plans of making the day special for couples. "We have arrangements from candlelight dinner and a-la-carte on Sunday. While some people have already booked a table, more bookings will follow before Sunday," Nishit Kumar Sinha, food and beverages manager of a posh hotel near J P roundabout told TOI.

While the city's only revolving restaurant has planned for a DJ and a couple-exclusive entry on Valentine's Day, another eatery near Gandhi Maidan will deck up the place with roses and balloons, said its manager Bhaskar Rai and added, "The footfall is definitely more on February 14 and we are prepared for it."

B-Town performers Payal Rohatgi and Mahek Chahal will be the main attractions at 'Valentine's Day Hungama' hosted at hotel near R-Block. "Couple entry will cost about Rs 2,500 while single entry will be for Rs 1,500. The show will be from 2pm to 8pm and has a seating capacity of 200," event's managing director Sunil Kumar Sinha said.

Meanwhile, florists had a field day on Sunday with red roses selling at as high as Rs 50 apiece. While Netizens too are enjoying their bit in the Valentine's week with messages such as 'Every day of the Valentine week is God's day and one should offer him 'Naivedyam' on chocolate day' doing the rounds on WhatsApp. In fact, various websites are raining discount offers in the run up to Valentine's Day to make February 14 more pocket-friendly for the internet-savvy couples.
